Auto workers: off their knees and fighting fit

P4020018-thumb

As heads of state met in London this week to argue about how much money they should give to the bankers who caused the current economic depression, workers took direct action, pointing towards a different way out of the crisis.

Sacked auto workers at the Visteon car-parts factory in Enfield continue to occupy their factory despite the arrival of bailiffs at the site early this afternoon.  The workers occupied their workplace on Wednesday morning after they were fired without wages due and redundancy pay.

A support demonstration has been called for tomorrow.

Statement from occupied factory workers

Ford Visteon workers have occupied the Ponders End factory since Wednesday 1st April.  The previous day in a meeting lasting just 6 minutes we were told that the European company, with plants in Belfast, Basildon and Ponders End, Enfield, was going into administration and that we were to leave - without our wages being paid.  Personal possessions could be collected the next day, but at 10 o'clock the factory was locked closed.   Workers had already occupied the Belfast factory.

URGENT - Help Enfield Factory Occupation

Workers at Visteon factory Enfield London have seized control of the factory following major lay-offs and need help to resist eviction expected very soon.

Planetary Biology and Anti-Capitalism

The science neccesarry to understand what's going wrong with humanity's economic relationship with the global environment can be found at the public library, if you know what you're looking for and how it all fits together.  Global unsustainability was discovered over 40 years ago.  Everyone in the G20 meeting went to university, so they have no excuse not to know it.

After car parts manufacturer Visteon announced job cuts workers occupied plants in Belfast, Basildon and Enfield. In Enfield about 70 workers - men and women from many backgrounds - are still inside the plant and on the roof. Last Tuesday the management called for a general assembly and told people that they would have to leave their workplace immediately. They were told to fetch their personal belongings the next day at 10 am. When people turned up the factory was already closed. Workers entered through an unlocked side entrance and occupied the plant.
