Following the workshop on sex work organised by the London Anarchist Forum at Saturday's Bookfair, a blog has been created to publish transcripts of the presentations and continue the debate.
Mp3 Audio (below) from a very informative talk organised by Corporate Watch. Olympics: Gentrification, Corporate Interest, Corruption and Resistance.
One of the largest audiences at the 2009 Anarchist Bookfair was for the talk Capitalism's Present Crisis: How Will It End?. From the bookfair website:
The capitalist system is facing years of crisis and social instability. This raises two questions. 1. what caused the crisis? Was it greedy bankers, the natural tendencies of the capitalist system or was it the resistance of the working class? 2. How will the crisis end? Will it end with more state regulation, more cuts in living standards or with working class revolution? The anarchist bookfair and Mute magazine have invited 3 speakers to debate these issues. Paul mason, presenter on BBC newsnight and author of Meltdown; John Holloway, author of change the world without taking power; William Dixon, Mute magazine contributor.
The talk was an interesting opportunity to talk about the economic crisis - check out the audio (below).
PUBLIC MEETING -sat 17 october, 6pm, Queen mary university, room 210, Laws building
Today five people picketed the Catalonian Delegation on fleet street, holding up a banner, handing out leaflets and shouting slogans demanding the release of Amadeu Casellas.
Amadeu Casellas is an anarchist prisoner who was convicted for robbing banks in the 1970s. He used the money to support workers' struggles. Despite having fully served his sentences and spending more years in prison than the maximum allowed by law, the authorities will not release him. His is now in a critical situation after 85 days on a hunger strike, and since October 4th on a drinking strike.
Royal Mail's feeble appeals to the membership have fallen flat on their face. Workers have had enough of cuts and closures, management dictat and bullying, and are getting ready to fight it out for our future....
.....Let's not fritter it away, start lobbying the PEC and passing motions demanding immediate action, we've delayed long enough. With the backlog and a big vote, we're all set up for a powerful national strike - now lets knock Royal Mail down!

With just a week to go until climate activists converge on EOn's Ratliffe on Soar coal power station, the company has announced that it is scrapping plans to build a new coal fired power station at Kingsnorth. Climate Camp promised to return to Kent to stop a new power station being built at Kingsnorth, and this summer launched 'Tipping Point' a social centre in Gillingham to bolster the local campaign. The project has been busy making connections and doing direct action training expecting a long drawn out battle, but on Wednesday 7th of October Eon announced it was dropping any immediate plans to replace the existing power station with another coal-fired power plant.

UCU and the SWP are reporting a victory in the Tower Hamlets College strike.
The so-called victory is that there are no compulsory redundancies. Instead the 13 at risk workers who formed the basis of the indefinite strike ballot were re-deployed or won appeals or have accepted enhanced voluntary redundancy.
There has been no agreement that there will be no further cuts or compulsory redundancies, or any other agreement honouring existing terms and conditions.

The Tower Hamlets College Strike continues.
Teachers again affirmed support for continuing the indefinite strike action in a mass meeting Tuesday. About 150 people voted to stay out, with 13 abstentions and no votes against. At the meeting a number of people expressed their understandable concerns about surviving longer with no income and more people talked about how students were suffering, but many more people argued that the students know what we're doing and support us.

Throughout the country today actions are taking place in solidarity with the workers of the Vesta Blades factory on the Isle of Wight. This morning the offices of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) was targetted by protesters who dropped banners and built a mini windfarm in the lobby. SEEDA is being pressured to withdraw £3m of public money they've said they'll give Vestas for a R&D facility despite the Danish company pulling its manufacturing from the UK. Tonight there will be a protest at the Department of Environment and Climate Change, in Whitehall Place, central London.
Arrests have just been made on the Isle of Wight of protesters occupying a
crane to prevent the transportation of Vestas wind turbine blades. There
are still protesters occupying another crane, more arrests are expected
within 35 minutes.
