On Sunday 17th a group of Londoners joined in protest against the sale by British supermarkets of Israeli goods and produce from illegal Israeli colonial settlements in the West Bank. The action took place in a West London Tesco. The group assembled around a trolley full of goods labelled 'produce of Israel', explaining the issues around the sale of Israeli goods to the public, alternating facts and chants, drawing the attention of both customers and staff. See video of the action.
The action was entirely peaceful and protesters left of their own accord, however two participants were arrested by the police, and later bailed return to the police station at a later date.

On Tuesday 12th around 100 people demonstrated outside the London Metropolitan University's Commercial Road campus, following a call to support the student occupation of the university. Those demonstrating included a continget from the IWW and UCU unions, students and staff from the university, as well as campaigners against the privatisation of education. People demonstrated for about one and a half hours, during which speeches were made by students and unions staff. See video.
The management of the university has hired private security to prevent people from joining the occupation. They prevented the demonstrators from visiting en mass the occupied area, although, for some very strange reason, people were allowed into the occupied rooms in small groups, so many of those demonstrating eventually did so in order to show support to the students in occupation.
See below some pics of the demo:
The canteen of London Metropolitan University's Commercial Road campus in Whitechapel has been occupied by students in protest over plans that could see 550 staff jobs axed. This is part of the campaign against LMU's scheme to restructure as a result of its massive financial crisis.
Students and striking staff claim that they should not be made to pay for years of bad management. They state that "those who are not responsible for the financial problems are now being punished for them". Unlike all the other universities occupied earlier this year, its seems that London Metropolitan will not allow this to run its course, as the management is taking the students to court to regain possession of the occupied area. There have also been reports that the governors are getting in private security to prevent anyone from joining the occupation, therefore the students have been calling for support. See photos of the solidarity demo on Tuesday 12th, and follow updates on Twitter.

SHAC were back out on the streets in London again today at arguably the most visible SHAC target in the world - Barclays Bank in Piccadilly Circus. We stayed for nearly 2 hours and gave out hundreds of leaflets telling everyone what a disgusting company Barclays are for continuing to be the largest shareholder in the disgraced and cruel Huntingdon Life Sciences.
The English Democrats are posing as a moderate alternative to the BNP in the Euro Elections. Sadly they are cultivating unsavoury links with another neo-Nazi group.
Demonstrate: Support London Metropolitan University students occupation at Commercial Rd, 5.30pm today!
From UCU and UNISON's Save London Met campaign committee:
Students in the Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design have occupied rooms in Commercial Rd in protest at the proposed cuts to staff. We understand that they are demanding that Management drop the proposals to make staff redundant and that managers come to explain to students what is happening.

We met at Bank in the centre of London and went to Legg Mason at 75 King William Street to ask them to put pressure on the NYSE, as they own a large amount of their shares and have the ability to get the NYSE to ditch HLS. Especially when HLS's share price is low and they are probably still breaking the minimum listing standards for the NYSE. Do the NYSE still list HLS (LSR) on their Arca exchange because they are afraid of being sued by HLS or maybe it has something to do with the $1 million worth of shares the broker was given to secure the deal with NYSE?
Out of control or business as usual?
Holding the police to account.

AstraZeneca were holding their AGM (Annual General Meeting) in London today, so we decided to pay them a visit and tell their shareholders exactly what kind of company they were investing in.
The AGM didn't start until the afternoon, so we began the day at their offices on Stanhope Gate to get them warmed up.

On Saturday 2nd May 2009, protestlondon.co.uk held a protest announcing calls for a declassification on Cannabis Laws, outside the gates of Downing Street, Whitehall. Earlier this year on January 2009 the drug was reclassified back to Class B from its previous Class C status. The protest, voiced on the de classification of the drug, with the laws making it possible for up to a maximum of 5 years if caught in possession with the substance.

Today protests for World Day for Animals in Laboratories, a UN recognised global day against animal experimentation, we continued with demos in the city. Barclays on Minories was first up today. This branch is a good place to do a really visual demo and can get really busy. They still own their 400,000 shares in HLS and over 13,500,000 in the NYSE (still the largest shareholder of both!) so we continue to demonstrate outside their branches and offices. We get a lot of passers-by and a lot of support from these demos.
