Ahava Occupied Again in support for Palestine

Shopfront-thumb

On Friday 18thm at 11am, two people entered the Ahava store in Monmoth Street, Covent Garden and closed the shop by locking themselves inside. Under the banner of 'Stolen Beauty from Stolen Land', they set out to highlight the sale of beauty products manufactured on illegal Israeli Settlements on Occupied Palestinian land.

In line with Saturday's International Day of Action Against Ahava, supported by the International Solidarity Movement, Code Pink, Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the Boycott Israeli Goods Campaign, the actions support the Palestinian non-violent efforts at resisting the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Climate Rush Tour Begins

Hi all climate camps. I just wanted to make mention about the climate rush tour that has kicked off on 4th September in Sipson which is ending in Totnes at the end of september, the girls and boys all decked out with the classic suffergette customs along side 3 beautiful horses.

I only went to fist leg of the tour which was Sipson Village, and also my first time in the village. It was an over whelming experience.

The work that every activist has done in the village has been amazing. But I wanted to share a comment. From one of the residents, that we haven't involved the local community with what's going on and all are hard work i.e actions. She had very valid points and a local perspective that will add punch to the campaign, No Third Runway.

This was my first time, but I fell that It was important to share that comment. This is something that could be added to the outreach blog.

Any documentery makers, listen to their stories and capturing their pain, will win hearts and minds of the UK. Age of Stupid?

So have pint at the King William IV, Sipson and a big shout out to all the boys and girls who are climate rushing across the Uk outreaching.

Barcelone mass deportation of Algerian boat people

Barcelone: forced repatriation of 120 Algerian boat people

Joan Saura, secretary interior Catalonia, is sending 120 Algerian boat people back home. All refugees appeared last weekend on the Mediterrenean coastline in Almeria. Avoiding damages of the public image during main season officials sent these immigrants  to the main northern city. The Barcelone detention camp located in the Free Port is overcrowded and suffering an influenca A outbreak.
Saura declared for the regional TV station TV3: We took over the illegals because in a mayor city they will "cause less public trouble" ("generando menos alarma social"). Catalonia has coalition government  composed by socialist, left-regionalist und Green Party(ICV).

SOS Racism critizes procedures as "racism of state". For Saura (ex-communist ICV) its "business as usual, according to Spanish immigration laws". Leftist parties blocked fiercer immigration laws in the Spanish parliament.

Police trade union CEP critized Saura for the inhuman conditions in CIE Zona Franca. The camp needs to be cleared  after the outbreak of swine flu.

Spain is trying comply its EU fortress duties to close its borders for illegal migration.  Scandalous internal documents revealed recently fixed arrest targets for presumed in Madrid metropolitan police headquarter.  Monthly targets aimed on Marrocan immigrants which are easily expelled to this neighbouring country. Minister Interior Rubalcaba denied the official origin of these advices.

In Barcelone it is now the first major operation also on Algerian sans papier. It still remains unclear if there is any bilateral agreement between both countries to repatriate refugees.

Whitechapel Anarchists: Chasing Cops

Here's the Whitechapel Anarchist Group's account of the police visit to the Climate Camp legal team. Bad timing and a mistake on the part of the Camp structure? Nefarious conferencing with the cops? You be the judge!

Climate Camp meeting with Cops and Council

It was decided not to allow them in the Camp so a meeting took place outside the entrance to the Camp instead. Wind noise drowned out a lot of the conversation unfortunately.

Know Your Rights!

The last public swoop meeting at Russel Square tonight was not only attended by activists, but also a couple of police officers (well, two visible ones. Apparently as a nice man in suit told us, there were more hiding in the bushes and taking pictures.) They showed keen interest in the presentation of the legal group, asking detailed questions about the bust cards (though one would assume they know that stuff)

Cops hire consultants to monitor social media

From Computer Weekly:

The Metropolitan Police has hired a firm of consultants to help it monitor social networking sites.

The police force says it wants to monitor peoples' perception of the Met, and counter rumours about what the police are doing ahead of this week's Climate Camp, which is due to take place during August bank holiday weekend.

The U.S. needs some G-20 protest inspiration!

The G-20 meeting to be held in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is taking place in just under a month (Sept. 24-25, 2009) and it would be nice to receive some advice and/or words of solidarity from London G20 protesters about how to achieve success with this round of protests.  Online support via Twitter updates & Blogs would be helpful too!  You folks have experience and we need to here from you in the states!
