More than 300 photographers were outside New Scotland yard in London today, exercising their right to take a photograph in a public place.
″Amendments to the Counter Terrorism Act – which comes into force in the UK today - allow for the arrest and imprisonment of anyone who takes pictures of police officers, and some other public servants, “likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism”.
The NUJ fears that the law will be used to stop news photographers doing legitimate work.″

While the National Union of Journalists was teaming up with comedian media activst Mark Thomas , Chris Atkins (the BAFTA nominated director and writer of the feature film documentary Taking Liberties), Marc Vallée (photojournalist blogger), The British Journal of Photography and others for a “media event” outside New Scotland Yard, I was busy trying to take photos useful for all my terrorist buddies.
I was a little unsure at exactly what would be useful but I just pointed my camera at whatever all the photographers outside New Scotland Yard were shooting. Apparently these photographers are well known for providing photos to terrorists so I assumed they knew what they were doing. They must be a terrible threat to security as a new law was came into power today which gives the cops the power to arrest photographers in order to prevent just this type of thing from happening. See video [1] [2] of the protest.
The Spike surplus scheme of 39B Consort Road, Peckham is being evicted as we speak. Bailiffs, cops, PCSOs and "community wardens" are on site.
After a ten year project in the building which has been in community use for 150 years, the property division of Southwark Council have decided to end the project. Though they promised to give notice to clear the project's equipment before eviction, Southwark Council gave instructions to get a special court order so as not to give any notice at all.

Palestine Solidarity Campaign, along with Stop the War Coalition and British Muslim Initiative are asking all London and South East supporters to come to the town hall and show your disgust at the invitation.
On 2 May about 60 people gathered outside city hall to await the London election results and protest against the lack of choice generally and the BNP specifically. The protest was set up at the riverside, opposite city hall, people were holding up banners and the only persons obstructing the highway were police and photographers. But police soon decided that there might be a chance of peace being breached and moved the protest into a fenced off area, where the peaceful protest was turned into open air detention.
Forward Intelligence Teams on the Gaza march on Saturday faced their toughest opposition to date, as people from the march joined Fitwatch activists in blocking police cameras.
As the FIT tried to film the march, they were soon challenged by Fitwatch activists. As the marchers saw what was happening more and more of them came over to support, and before long two FIT coppers and their photographer ended up stranded helplessly on a wall, surrounded by a sea of placards all being held at camera height. They were completely unable to operate, and when they missed getting footage of a group of Asian lads they were after, the anger showed. When, at the head of the march, another FIT team were frustrated by Fitwatchers, the police lost patience. They stopped what had been a very quiet, orderly demo, brought in the TSG, and sent snatch squads in for known Fitwatch activists, sparking a whole load of fuss and even more arrests [See video]

As the police blocked people marching from Trafalgar Square to the Kensington, causing chaos on many Westminster streets as a result, there was also a small demonstration at the Israeli embassy, with a massive police presence.
From 7pm the protesters were repeatedly told that their time was up, and that they had to leave the area, at 7:30 police began to push them out of the barrier cage towards Kensington High Street tube, but as on nearly every day people tried to take the road rather than the pavement. There was a standoff, and reinforcements were sent in before the protesters, now numbering around 80, were slowly marched into the underground station by at least 100 police in riot gear. Another 50 police and several horses remained at the embassy.
