Keeping up the pressure on Fortress (5 Saville Row) we spent another couple of hours over their lunch-break leafletting and telling all their neighbours exactly the kind of filthy business Fortress are involved in. We received more confirmation that Fortress are actually there from people who work for them, apart from their returning their signs to their position in the reception last week.

Friday, 2nd October

Following on from the protest at Fortress, activist thought that because they were in the neighbourhood, we couldn't ignore one of our 'favorite' protest sites; AstraZeneca on Stanhope Gate.

SHACtivists arrived and immediately got on the megaphones at the front and the back of AZ's premises, doors were quickly closed, shutters and curtains draw, leaving chauffeurs in big cars circling AZ wondering how they were going to pick up their passengers. Echoes of chanting filled the air around Stanhope Gate and left nobody in the area wondering why we were there and what we thought of AstraZeneca!

Friday, 2nd October

At lunchtime, a dozen London activists went to 5 Savile Row, the office address of Fortress Investment (FCF Ltd), where we had a loud and focused demo naming and shaming Fortress for their sneaky, under-hand dealings with HLS/LSR, for trying to hide their involvement with HLS in 'mafia style' financial dealings by getting other companies to start shell companies to front their loan to HLS. Fortress don't sound to proud to be helping HLS out do they?

Early this afternoon, 3 activists walked into Somerset House for London Fashion Weekend and into the exhibit for The London Fur Company. As one activist locked her friend to a stand and proceeded to superglue herself around another, the third glued herself to a stand near the door and they began to shout.

As the rain fell on London today, it set the mood for a lively demo outside The Bloomsbury Hotel, 16-22 Great Russel Street, London WC1 3NN. We were at the location as the pharmaceutical community have decided to hold a Drug 'Safety' Conference at the hotel for a whole week, with many of HLS' customers attending! Lee Hall, notorious defender of state oppression of animal activists and author of the ridiculous ‘Capers in the Churchyard, Animal Activism in the Age of Terror' was scheduled to give a talk today (Sunday Sep 6th) at the London Vegan Festival. Things didn't work out quite as she, or the festival, had planned however. If Hall was seriously entertaining the notion that she could fly to England and hold forth for fifty minutes at an event like this, with SHAC activists present, on the subject of her choice, without being confronted about her statements on direct action, then I suggest she is in need of a psychiatrist.

On a sunny afternoon, SHAC London decided to meet up for an AstraZeneca demo and this week due to the events in Europe, concerning one Daniel Vasella, of Novartis we were joined by a camera crew from the Swiss television network, TSR.

They had lots of questions, all press is good press! We told them about the 7 exposes in the past 12 years at HLS, of the cruelty, scientific fraud, etc

Hey AZ, you're getting a bit paranoid or what?

Some of SHAC London decided to meet up for a AstraZeneca demo this afternoon and we were all raring to go as we hadn't met up for a little while, when we were approached by a copper. Apparently, a rather paranoid Duty Inspector had gotten wind of our demo so decided to send a car load of bobbies down to see what the crack was.

This morning we made a surprise visit to AstraZeneca in one of the richest parts of London - near the US Embassy. It was something that the staff definitely did not want to see as they came into work. Pathetic workers struggled to pull their blinds down to shield their eyes from the placards we were holding. They might not want to know the truth, but their neighbours do and they know that AZ are up to their necks in torture.

We met up at Bank at 11:30 and then moved off to our first demo of the day outside the offices of the second largest NYSE shareholder, Legg Mason. We call upon Legg Mason to use their influence as a part owner of the NYSE, to get NYSE Euronext to de list HLS (LSR). We then went to NYSE Euronext itself, Vanguard (largest institutional shareholder of HLS), AstraZeneca (HLS customer), TA Associates (who own Numeric Investors; HLS' fourth largest institutional shareholder) and Brown Advisory (second largest HLS shareholder).

Tuesday, 12th May

SHAC were back out on the streets in London again today at arguably the most visible SHAC target in the world - Barclays Bank in Piccadilly Circus. We stayed for nearly 2 hours and gave out hundreds of leaflets telling everyone what a disgusting company Barclays are for continuing to be the largest shareholder in the disgraced and cruel Huntingdon Life Sciences.

Wednesday, 6th May

We met at Bank in the centre of London and went to Legg Mason at 75 King William Street to ask them to put pressure on the NYSE, as they own a large amount of their shares and have the ability to get the NYSE to ditch HLS. Especially when HLS's share price is low and they are probably still breaking the minimum listing standards for the NYSE. Do the NYSE still list HLS (LSR) on their Arca exchange because they are afraid of being sued by HLS or maybe it has something to do with the $1 million worth of shares the broker was given to secure the deal with NYSE?

AstraZeneca were holding their AGM (Annual General Meeting) in London today, so we decided to pay them a visit and tell their shareholders exactly what kind of company they were investing in.

The AGM didn't start until the afternoon, so we began the day at their offices on Stanhope Gate to get them warmed up.

Friday, 24th April

Today protests for World Day for Animals in Laboratories, a UN recognised global day against animal experimentation, we continued with demos in the city. Barclays on Minories was first up today. This branch is a good place to do a really visual demo and can get really busy. They still own their 400,000 shares in HLS and over 13,500,000 in the NYSE (still the largest shareholder of both!) so we continue to demonstrate outside their branches and offices. We get a lot of passers-by and a lot of support from these demos.

We thought as it was World Week for animals in Labs we would pay a special midweek visit to some of London's most disgusting targets. We started at Astra Zeneca, 15 Stanhope Gate, London W1K 1LN, this company was exposed (and filmed) recently conducting horrific and brutal experiments on wild caught primates inside HLS. Astra Zeneca remains one of our biggest and sickest targets. This is a company with no morals whatsoever and we will never stop fighting against their abuses until they stop for good.

Wednesday, 15th April

We started our first day of demonstrations for a while on Wednesday since the excitement and heavy-handed policing of the G20. We surprised NYSE / Euronext with a loud demo outside of their injunction in Cousin Lane for about 2 hours. These financial companies are viewed very dimly by the public and the media at the moment, and we used megaphones to tell them just how disgusted we were with them at still trading the shares of HLS.

A different feel for demos today, as SHAC went into SOCPA-zone to demonstrate. Very reluctantly we 'got permission' for our 4 protests, and so we started at Barclays next to the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, just next to parliament.

We started today's London protests against TIAA-CREF at 33 Cavendish Square just off Oxford Circus. This equity fund has over 78,000 shares in torture of innocent animals inside Huntingdon Life Sciences and we were there louder than before to let them know that their investment in animal suffering would not be tolerated.

On the third demo day in a row for the SHAC London posse, we did 6 demonstrations against the financial contributors to Huntingdon Life Sciences, starting with a morning demo at TIAA-CREF in Cavendish Square just off Oxford Circus.

This morning yet again we were outside the doors of the AIG building in Fenchurch Street demanding they sell their blood money shares in HLS. This company is spending US tax payer's money on supporting the torture of monkeys, puppies and kittens inside HLS - what a disgrace! We were there from half eight to greet the workers going in and stayed for about an hour and a quarter. They didn't like the "World's biggest ever losers" placard one bit, though it is completely accurate.

A quick glance at this morning's newspapers and we were in no doubt
where to do a demo!

AIG, shareholders in HLS to the tune of about 40,000, have just announced record breaking losses of over $60bn in the last 3 months, and over $70bn in the last year. Not only that, but they have been funded by the US tax payer by about $150bn with another $30bn due to follow. As if the US is a perfect country! The US have millions of people homeless, tens of millions of people who can't afford healthcare and tens of millions of people living below the poverty line, and yet it's AIG that get the help from the US government!!

Not satisfied with just the impending SHAC City Shakedown march at noon in London, a few London activists warmed up their voices and gave their placards an airing by showing up early at AIG 48 Berkeley Square, London W1J 5AX to greet workers as they came into work. We shamed them in front of their neighbours for their recent investment in Huntingdon Life Sciences. This will not be tolerated AIG and we won't be leaving you alone until those shares are sold.

Around 300 people traveled from around the country (and some from around the world!) to gather by the Bank of England, the only bank in the world to give HLS banking facilities at the behest of the Government for a loud and vibrant demonstration against the financial supporters of HLS in the centre of London.

The march aimed to publicly show the financial investors, or even prospective investors, that we won’t tolerate puppies being thrown around, monkeys being cut open alive and other innocent animals suffering in silence. Of our anger, passion, focus and determination to carry on the fight despite repressive laws and long jail sentences that some SHAC campaigners have received.

The march started off in front of the Bank of England with 20 or so journalists and photographers who followed the protest march around a circular route of 2 miles around the city's financial district.

Monday, 23th February

Only three of us for another mini demo inside the 'SOCPA-zone' where we protested against Barclays (biggest HLS shareholder), but we still managed to do a decent little demo while leafletting about this Friday's march. We managed about 40 minutes of a demonstration before being told to clear off by a sergeant. It's a free society to demonstrate as long as you get permission and give 6 days notice! What a joke! Anyway, SHAC doesn't care about SOCPA and we'll be returning some time soon.
