Members of the London Catholic Worker movement blockaded Downing Street today on the tenth anniversary of the start of the Afghan war. Red paint was spilt on the ground symbolizing the blood that has been spilt during the conflict; banners were held; names of the dead were read out.

March to save the NHS

Img_0877-medium-thumb

Following a call to "march for the NHS" around 1500 demonstrated on Tuesday 17th from Euston to Whitehall to protest the planned cuts for the NHS. The NHS bill currently pushed through by the Government will ultimatelly allow neoliberal capitalist thinking and its belief in the markets to dictate the type of services the NHS will provide, causing irreparable damage to it.

We marched from Kennington Park and made our way up to Waterlo, joined the main march at Westminster Bridge and then moved slowly, past Downing Street and on to and Trafalgar Square. From there we broke off from the main march and on to Oxford Street where a number of shops were in the process of being targeted for unpaid taxes...

The full force of the law

Tumblr_ld722aplz41qd8cz1-thumb

Last Thursday we saw another round of breach the human rights with open air detainment, crushing of protesters, furious baton charges and last but not least horse charges into tightly packed crowds. Sound familiar? Remember the G20 last year? While Cameron is announcing to bring down "the full force of the law" on protesters in this so called democracy, and there is public debate whether water can…

Hard Times - for Police Credibility

Rounding off an extremely bad month (for them), the past 12 hours has been hard on police credibility as they try to address the fallout from the 24 November demos.  First, they denied that a serving officer discharged a BCF halon fire extinguisher point-blank into the faces of young demonstrators during the student demonstrations this past Wednesday.  However, with the help of one of our very ow…

No Ifs, No Buts...!

This is not an exhaustive report. There were so many of us and everyone has their story to tell (why don't you tell your story?). So basically, they want to take away the right to education, and we won't let them. It was brilliant seeing all those people turn out, 13, 14 year old school kids amongst them. We started off at ULU. Everyone's really angry. How do those who got an education get to mess…

DIY portaloos

Although the cops claim to be providing loos for protesters now, it seems the 2 portaloos aren't enough for 4-5000 people. Protesters get creative and set up their own public toilets.

It's getting chilly...

Protesters say "It is cold as fuck" and claim they have been forced to burn copies of the Socialist Worker to keep warm. Policing true to the motto: "If you want to protest, we'll make you protest untill you get hypothermia!"

“Tory Scum, Education is a Right”…

… it read one of the placards in today’s student demonstration in central London. And this short and sharp message not only seems to sum up the feelings of most of the 50,000 people that took to the streets to protest against the Government imposed cuts in education spending, but also the events that unfolded during the massive demonstration.

The crowds started to gather at Horse Guards Avenue …

They say cut back we say fight back!

Img_1860-thumb

On the day the cuts were announced, about 5000 people took to the street to protest against paying for the capitalist crisis, but is this enough? A few days after the Haringey Anti Cuts March people were proposing Downing Street to make the people pay who caused the crisis, and students went ahead to set up an education camp.
