grim protest at shell-sponsored southbank festival

activists from london rising tide (helped by 'rhythms of resistance' samba players), staged a noisy and theatrical protest at the royal festival hall yesterday evening, highlighting the greenwashing of shell's image through cultural sponsorship in their 'shell classic international' festival at the southbank centre.

Blackfriar's flashride

London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is finally showing some spirit and organised it's second Flashride to highlight tfl's and the mayor of London's failure to accomodate pedestrians and cyclists in the redesign of Blackfriars bridge.

We marched from Kennington Park and made our way up to Waterlo, joined the main march at Westminster Bridge and then moved slowly, past Downing Street and on to and Trafalgar Square. From there we broke off from the main march and on to Oxford Street where a number of shops were in the process of being targeted for unpaid taxes...

July Critical Mass Bike Ride

Around 600 cyclists came out on the monthly Critical Mass bicycle ride last Friday night. the ride takes place on the last friday of every month throughout the year, and riders meet from 6pm on the south bank under waterloo bridge by the national film theatre. the route is decided by riders on the night, and since last year's high court case, police no longer ride with the bikes.

The day has been busy, starting early in the morning with a banner drop at Waterloo by the Space Hijackers, followed by a cosy burn fire and tunes by the D*I sound system at the WAG's burning of the ballots [pics] while the Democracy Village has been gearing up for its Peace Festival on Parliament Square [see day 1 | 3 | 4 | 5].

The Space Hijackers were up early this morning to take our election message to the commuters at Waterloo.  Two agents braved the rush hour chaos at waterloo to drop a banner and pass on our campaign message.
