Nadine Dorries bill proposing mandatory abstinence classes for young girls was withdrawn before it could be debated by MPs in parliament today. Close to 100 mostly women protesters welcomed the news of the withdrawal with cheers and applause.

last thursday, two people were found guilty at westminster magistrates court under section 128 of the serious organised crime and police act (socpa), which creates a criminal offence of trespass on certain 'designated' sites. the convictions were related to a banner drop from scaffolding at the front of parliament during the only debate there has ever been about the war in afghanistan. read rikki'…

brian haw, the parliament square peace campaigner, passed away in the early hours yesterday morning after a long struggle with lung cancer.
brian haw died peacefully in germany where he had been receiving treatment for lung cancer for the past six months. his parliament square peace campaign marked an extraordinary ten-year milestone just two weeks earlier.

A small demonstration was held in Parliament Square on Saturday calling for an end to the forcible deportation of migrants, the closure of all immigration detention centres, freedom of movement and equal rights for all. The protest was part of the Week of Action Against the Deportation Machine and was attended by different groups that form the Stop Deportation Network.

This morning, some students from Kingston University were prevented by police in Parliament Square from interviewing Barbara Tucker as part of their MA course.
In the arguments which ensued, Barbara Tucker was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
