We joined the J30 Critical Mass at the Brixton Oval. Prior to that we had been for a while visiting the different pickets in the Brixton area, and we quickly realised that this strike wasn't going to be confined to a ritual Unions march in central London. Local members of the public have occupied the disused Job Dentre in Deptford as a response to the brutal cuts to public services being carried out at both a local and national level. 124 Deptford High Street. Last Saturday more then 30 people occupied New Cross Library in protest against Lewisham council's plan - originally to close it, now to sell it off to some non-public body and withdraw funding. New Cross Library has been occupied in protest against Lewisham council's plan - originally to close it, now to sell it off to some non-public body and withdraw funding, thus ensuring it will not function properly as a library and will likely fail altogether.
We plan to be here till lunchtime Sunday (tomorrow) at least, so come and pop in, put the word out.

Inspired by the recent student protests and angry about proposed local cuts people in Lewisham stormed the Town Hall where a vote on the cuts was taking place after the number of people allowed into the meeting was cut.
Around 100 people tried to force their way into the building. Extra riot police were sent to the town hall along with police horses and dogs to disperse the protest using force.

Last wednesday (3rd September), as the Camp for Climate Action finished up clearing the site of this years climate camp, a group of activists pitched a tent within the grounds of E-on owed Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire. The tent was emblazoned with the words “Climate Camp is coming” in reference to their plans to shut down the power station in October.

Three metropolitan police officers are due to appear in court charged with perverting the course of justice. A man was arrested in January 2008 for possession of cannabis but charges were dropped when a digital voice recording was played raising question to the officers' statements. They are due to appear at Southwark crown court on August 17th 2009 for a five-day trial.

Up to 100 people gathered at the occupied Lewisham Bridge School this morning to stop today’s eviction scheduled for 10:30am. A youthful and lively contingent joined local parents on the roof whilst local supporters gathered outside the front of the school. The spirit of the Glasgow school occupation and the Visteon workers has spread and parents in a primary school in Lewisham have occupied the school roof in protest at its closure.
