Assange was granted bail earlier today, after appearing at Westminster Magistrates Court. Over 100 people turned out in support and lined the sidewalk opposite the court, many wearing masks. The event was turned into an impromptu speakers corner by several people addressing various issues around the charges, the leaks as well as wider issues of freedom of speech and information and social justice. Despite the court decision, Assange remains in prison, as the swedish authorities intervened on Tuesday evening. Now the High Court will decide by 16th of December.
The arrest and refusal of bail on charges of sex crimes had sparked another round of cyber war. There are several issues around the charges and conditions of extradition, e.g. Assange has not yet been formally charged in Sweden. Read more on this story...

clarification
just to clarify the [procedure: the High Court has to decide within 48 hours, so he might be free before. However, it can't be more obvious that this is a political hunt, such interest by authorities to keep somebody jailed without being charged is unheard of.

Not out on bail
He's been bailed but because the Swedes appealed Assange will have at least another two days in prison without being charged. As Mark Stephens said in advance, this proves this is a persecution not a prosecution.
