Please read on for a very special message from the indispensably brilliant Dissident Island Radio and Housmans Bookshop, and the Comedian & Political Satirist Mark Steel, all of whom kick off 2010 with a special message for London Indymedia. Then please add a message of your own for all the people who use and contribute to London Indymedia.

Happy New Year!

DISSIDENT ISLAND

First off, 2009 was a great year for Dissident Island Radio! We turned 2 years old, broadcast our 50th episode, threw a handful of benefit parties, aired twenty-seven jam packed live shows, including two shows during the G20 actions in London, panel discussions on Direct Action and the Economic Meltdown and a couple live shows from the middle of a field during the Blackheath Camp for Climate Action. To top off this busy year, part of our crew went down to Copenhagen to take part in the Indymedia Radio kolective during the COP15!

In 2010, your London-based DIY radio crew have plans to build and test out some mobile sound systems, throw more kick-ass benefit squat parties, put together some DIY or Die guides on building and fixing sound-related equipment...as well as our usual twice monthly shows featuring the latest word on the street, lots of quality tunes, plays, recipes, prisoner solidarity info and the usual chat and on-air bollocks...There are even plans to hold some radio workshops to help people start their own internet-based radio shows. Dissident Island will also be looking to collaborate with other radical radio crews around the country, and the world, in hopes of creating a UK radical radio network in the future... So get in touch if you're interested in this idea.

Much love from the Island to all the people who take part and tune-in, and to the London Indymedia kolective for their hard work and continued support for independent radio projects.

Check it in 2010!

HOUSMANS BOOKSHOP

Housmans Bookshop has a had a good year in 2009: plenty of great in-store events, and we celebrated our 50th  year of radical bookselling from our Caledonian Road home. Thanks to everyone at Indymedia London for all the support – it’s much appreciated. Our biggest plan in 2010 is to raise awareness of our online bookshop. This has all the books you’d expect on Amazon, and so we see it as an ethical alternative to that union-busting, publisher-squeezing corporation. It’s a tough time for booksellers, so please do keep supporting the shop that supports your campaigns, and do check out the new webshop at www.housmans.com. Best wishes to you all in 2010.

MARK STEEL

Hello London Indymedia, and sorry if this is too late. The list of things I'd like to change this year couldn't be fitted onto all the microchips in Microsoft, let alone a paragraph, but just to pick a couple at random, peace in Palestine, Chelsea relegated and Richard Branson grovelling on the floor in a debtors' prison. Cheers, Mark.
