Climate Camp: Action Reports

Update: The last structures were taken down on Blackheath on the morning of Friday 4th September after a full day of tatting down on Thursday -  the site was left clear. Planning continues for the Mass Action to shut Ratcliffe power station on 17th/18th October and direct action in Copenhagen for the COP15 Climate Change Conference in December.

Wednesday 3rd updates:  This morning climate activists entered the Dept of Energy and Climate Change [pic], protested outside [pic] and blocked the door with a canoe [twitpics 1|2|3|4] Earlier activists left a reminder at Ratcliffe power station [pics 1|2] of their planned visit on 17/18th October when campaigners say they will shut the plant down [press release]. At camp the work of dismantling is underway [report], whilst another action by a group called Don't Build Kingsnorth was reported at the Dartford offices of construction giant Laing O'Rourke [pics]

Tuesday 2nd update: Early Tuesday morning climate activists descended on Edelman PR, the public relations firm responsible for EON's greenwash to expose the naked truth [pic] about their spin [video], while another group of campers were blockading the entrance to RBS [photos 1|2] [audio interview][video 1|2|3] [CC website pics] as well as invading its offices and supergluing themselves inside [audio interview][pic].

A Tar Sands related protest left from Trafalgar Square, stopped at the National Portrait Gallery and arrived at noon outside the headquarters of BP [photo reports 1|2|3][video], with street theatre, radical poetry, a live samba band and speeches. At 2pm the group left chanting "We'll be back" and marched past Trafalgar Sq. [twitpic] to the Shell Offices [photos][video], with banners reading "Shell devastates communities" and "No more greenwash". Meanwhile other protestors visited Eon to congratulate them on their Ratcliffe power station winning the vote to become the target of October's mass action [twitpic][qik video].
