January 29, 2011 19:25 - It seems the remaining groups are dispersing now after a long day of protest. Police FIT teams seem to be filming protestrs leaving the area [video] Also see video rushes of today's protest.

January 29, 2011 19:00 - Group still marching through the streets, chanting loudly, blocking Oxford St - now a sit down demo on Oxford St.

January 29, 2011 18:35 - Topshop in Oxford Street is still being protected by the police, as a group passes by.
Mounted police have been seen in Whitehall where 50 or so protestors are heading towards Parliamnet Square.

January 29, 2011 18:22 - One of the remaining groups have entered Picadilly Circus where the crowd tried to blockade the large Boots shop there, while shouting "pay your taxes" they then decided to move on to Regent Street, still moving fast. The other large group is round the back the National gallery heading towards Trafalgar Square.

January 29, 2011 18:03 - Police lines forming at the junction of Berners Street and Oxford Street. The two groups that merged are heading off down Charing X Road, where the TSG have made one arrest outside Pizza Hut. More police arriving at Tottenham Court Road.

January 29, 2011 17:53 - Many leaving Oxford Circus Top Shop are now heading South East along Great Marlborough St. Two large groups not amounting to 400 people, have now met up on Oxford street and are marching east together.

January 29, 2011 17:46 - Oxford Circus blockaded once again and Top Shop shut down again, that group is now heading down Oxford Street East bound, meanwhile the second group coming from Holborn are now passing Tottenham Court Road and likely to meet up. The Boots shop on Oxford Street (near Wells st) has been blockaded by 500 people, with the police moving in quickly to protect the shop.

January 29, 2011 17:28 - The group heading from Holborn eastwards, have now doubled back on themselves towards the Westend, initially without any police presence but now have picked up riot vans following them. Block of 1000+ now heading up Regent St, with the police bringing in re-enforcements behind them.

January 29, 2011 17:19 - 3/400 people heading east from Holborn towards the City. Large group of 1000 arrived at Piccadilly circus from Trafalgar Sq and blocking the area. Traffic at stand still in the area. The samba is playing with a helicopter hovering overhead.

January 29, 2011 17:16 - 300 people are passing High Holborn, a sit-in is happening near Pariament Square and another group is still around Leicester Square. TWo other groups greet each other with open arm in Trafalgar Square. Police are confused as to what is happening and seem just to be catching up with groups at intervals.

January 29, 2011 17:10 - 100 people continuing their demo at TopShop in Oxford Circus, keeping the shop closed whilst shouting "if you dont pay your taxes we will shut you down". Another group heading now towards Trafalgar Square.

January 29, 2011 17:02 - A Sound System is holding a party though Leicester Square, while three other groups are heading towards Kings Cross. Another group is heading back towards central London towards Russel Square. A Dorothy Perkins shop in Oxford Street was also shut down for not paying their taxes.

January 29, 2011 16:52 - A group of 200 people were walking up TCR, stopping all the traffic, then suddenly dispersed into the side streets very quickly, leaving the police blocading the roads with no protest. Another 500 are at the Top near Euston Road heading towards Kings X. Many small groups have split off along the way. Other reports of crowds ging down Regents St.

January 29, 2011 16:42 - 200 more people, many masked up, marching down towards Tottenham CR with many police trying to push them away unsuccessfully. Other reports coming in of Oxford Circus being closed down by large numbers.

January 29, 2011 16:35 - Around 700 people now at Tottenham Court Road with a sound system to keep it lively.

January 29, 2011 16:30 - Vodafone's main shop in Oxford Street is also preparing to close its shutters to the public. A group of around 250 people are marching very quickly down towards Tottenham Court road blocking the road behind them with bins.

January 29, 2011 16:18 - Topshop on Oxford Circus has once again had to lock its doors, with many customers inside. Back at the embassy there remain around 300 people having spontaineous speeches and huddled around small fires for warmth.

January 29, 2011 16:10 - A group of protestors have been seen following sound system and heading towards Oxford St from the embassy. Other reports show there are small groups of 50/100 people in Shaftsbury Avenue and Covent Garden. Others are heading towards Millbank.

January 29, 2011 15:59 - With the situation around the embassy looking more like a kettle, many protestor are starting to move off towards Park Lane and Oxford Street.

January 29, 2011 15:52 - Met police reporting they are happy with the protest at the embassy, while many reports are coming in of TSG riot police moving towards the area.

January 29, 2011 15:45 - Police lines are begining to form in the roads near the embassy, could be the beginnings of a kettle.

January 29, 2011 15:35 - Giant soundsystem arrived at embassy, and although not kettled yet, reports say the police are in large enough numbers in the surrounding streets, and a Fit team has been sen on Rex Place. Topshop in Oxford Street has been briefly attacked, the crowd then ran from police.

January 29, 2011 15:31 - A group of 500 people are being served a late lunch by one of the mobile kitchens in the corner of South Audley Street and South Street in front of the embassy. A few police vans are in the area.
A police line is blocking exit via Aldford St, whilsts other groups further south, including the Sound system, are being stopped from going North to join them.

January 29, 2011 15:21 - Rows of riot police outside Egyptian embassy. LArge group is now coming close to the embassy. Three riot vans and about 15 horses at hyde park corner. Park Lane traffic has been stopped by samba band.

January 29, 2011 15:14 - Part of the march has now moved on from Egyptian embassy to Oxford Street. By moving fast small groups are sucessfully avoiding kettles that the police attempt.

January 29, 2011 15:08 - More students and Egyptian protesters have joined up outside the embassy, which includes a mobile sound system. Mounted police heading through Trafalgar Square from Whitehall heading up The Mall. TSG vans containing full riot police following.

January 29, 2011 15:05 - Another group including the Samba band and a medic group have joined the main march in Grosvenor Place (behind Buckinham palace) with four police vans following.

January 29, 2011 15:01 - Manchester: Demo has been kettled by the police, six arrests have been reported so far, with other reports of groups heading towards the Arndale centre. Lots of cat and mouse action aound the area. Police escort Aaron Porter away from Manchester student demo for his own safet

January 29, 2011 14:48 - Another group of 200 are in Vauxhall Bridge road, including the Precarious Carrot Collective that have a mobile kitchen with them.

January 29, 2011 14:45 - Two different groups have joined at Victoria now around 1000 people near Victoria. The speed of the group means the police can not intervene and stop their progress. They are now at Grosvenor Street chanting "who's streets - our streets".

January 29, 2011 14:40 - One group heading down Vauxhall Bridge Road, of around 400 people moving quickly and getting lots of support from passing traffic, taking up half the road.

January 29, 2011 14:25 - The march has now split into 2 or 3 groups with one turning left into Warick Way, around 1000, with police blocking off side routes. Another group is heading towards Park Lane.

January 29, 2011 14:23 - Manchester: demostration starting to turn, as up to 8 people are arrested, and scuffles break out with the police. Black blocs have been reported breaking through police lines and heading towards teh main banks.

January 29, 2011 14:16 - Large movement of police vans across central london with their lights flashing. Some sit down demos blocking the movement of police vans around Millbank.

January 29, 2011 14:12 - Large group now heading towards the Egyptian embassy to show solidarity with the streets in Cairo.

January 29, 2011 14:06 - Some trouble at Millbank as protestors continued on trying to reach the tower complex, with police sourounding the building and more re-enforcements on their way [video] Also antagonism reported towards the speakers at the rally.

January 29, 2011 13:52 - Sit down demo happening near Lambeth Bridge. Also the kids amonst the crowd at Millbank are bored with the speeches and starting to return to Parliament.

January 29, 2011 13:46 - The break away group that headed off towards the Oxford Street Topshop, which is currently closed, are being threatened with being 'kettled' by the police. Reports of plainclothes security guards filming and photographing protesters outside Topshop.

January 29, 2011 13:45 - A sound system at Millbank is having technical problems, while the SWP and trots set up stalls.

January 29, 2011 13:42 - The front of the march is now passing Parliament Square heading on towards Millbank. Crowds of protestors are staying in the areas rather than heading towards the speeches in Millbank.

January 29, 2011 13:39 - Police vans are blocking side streets of Whitehall, keeping the crowd moving. With another police line forming over Westminster bridge, but still open for now.

January 29, 2011 13:30 - A group has broken away from the main march to head towards the National Gallery, likley to do a teach-in.

January 29, 2011 13:28 - The front of the march is now passing Horse Guards Parade down Whitehall, while the end is still passing Aldwych. Flares are been set off, much to the delight of the crowd.

January 29, 2011 13:25 - Numbers now moving up towards 7000, with break away groups of a few hundred heading into the centre of town towards Picadilly shouting "who's streets - our streets".

January 29, 2011 13:23 - The Samba band has passed the Savoy Hotel with the fit team still filming all protestors. Vodafone and TopShop have been closed. With people shouting "Vodafone pay your tax" and demanding that the phone companies should not be cutting their connections to the people on the streets of Egypt at the bequest of the dictators.

January 29, 2011 13:20 - Part of the march stops at TopShop to make clear the links between the cuts / fees and the Tax evasion of the major highstreet shops and banks.

January 29, 2011 13:17 - The Green and Black Cross are organising a kitchen for the day, with supplies of water, fruit, flapjack and hotcross buns for the protestors.

January 29, 2011 13:06 - Police helicopters over The Aldwych area, with FIT teams taking regular pictures of the protestors passing by. Reports of the crowd now at 5000 in London.

January 29, 2011 13:01 - Several thousand people now streaming down Southampton Row, with the front of the march on the Strand. Large number of educational Union banners.

January 29, 2011 12:57 - March now coming up to Holborn, moving at quite a pace, not many police to be seen in the area.

January 29, 2011 12:49 - Reports of over 5000 on the Manchester demo, with Aaron Porter being booed and bing called a Tory, with not much support when the NUS is mentioned. NUS rep just booed off stage with people throwing food in his direction.

January 29, 2011 12:41 - The march has set of early towards the end of Malet Street.

January 29, 2011 12:38 - Over 1800 people making lots of noise, with many trade union banners "injustice to one, is injustice to all", anarchist groups and student plackards "Arts against the cuts" within the crowd.

Questions being raised over whether the act of accepting the police leaflet actually means you are legally bound by a section14 notice (we will try and confirm as answers come in).

January 29, 2011 11:30 - A few hundred people have started to gather at ULU with banners and stalls. Good atmosphere in the freezing cold. Several police teams handing out leaflets of the route with the sub-title "right to protest!
