as part of the international pillow fight day, which has been running for the past five years, more than a hundred people fought for half an hour in trafalgar square this afternoon, to beat each other senseless with pillows of all shapes and sizes. the square heritage wardens were on hand to ensure not too much fun was had.

the 9th peaceful anti-cuts occupation in trafalgar square began last night. during the evening there were six arrests and plenty of intimidation. this morning couple of dozen protestors were evicted by a police operation involving 150 officers. they were also told a section 60 is in force today J30.

the fifth trafalgar square 'occupation against the cuts' takes place this weekend. a 24-hour overnight occupation will begin at 18.30 tomorrow (saturday).

the 'occupation against the cuts', which took up its usual weekly position yesterday evening, looks set to stay for its full proposed 48 hours this weekend, despite trafalgar square being the final destination of the annual mayday workers' march this afternoon.

the peaceful 'occupation against the cuts' established its camp in trafalgar square for the fourth week running on saturday 23rd. the 24 hour protest will camp overnight and run workshops and awareness-raising exercises during the day tomorrow

Following the successful 24-hour peaceful anti cuts occupation of Trafalgar Square last weekend by an array of individuals and groups - 150 strong at its height - it was decided unanimously to return at 6.30pm on Saturday 9 April for another 24-hour occupation.

Over 10,000 trade unionists and campaigners marched through central London today to defend the welfare state and public services. the climate camp swoop successfully took over trafalgar square from around 4.30 this evening. here are a few pics from the early stages of the camp. the campers initially intend to remain there for 48 hours. at present, police have no immediate plans to remove them.
