The following statement regarding the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests was read out by the group working on the G20 witness appeal at a demonstration earlier today.

People took to the streets to express their compassion with the family of Ian Tomlinson who tragically died during the 1st April protests at the Bank of England. They were calling for an independent public inquiry into the instances of police violence that occurred though out the week and to establish to true circumstances of his death. On April 4th, about 100 people gathered at Bank and then marched past Liverpool Street Station and RBS towards Bethnal Green, to protest against police brutality and demand an independent inquiry into the police strategies used during the protests against the G20 and the death of a man under still unconfirmed circumstances on April 1st.
