the balmy indian summer weather ensured a good turn-out for the critical mass bike ride last friday evening, and hundreds of cyclists enjoyed a joyous ride round london despite the occasional psychopathic motorist and a couple of crazy cops. the critical mass bicycle ride, now in in its 11th year, takes place on the last friday of each month throughout the year.

up to 200 cyclists joined the climate rush bike ride tonight outside chatham house where the corporate conference "coal: an answer to energy security?" was being held.

several hundred joined london's critical mass bike ride on a warm summer's friday evening. it was one of the longer rides too, petering out at smithfield market at around 10pm with still a hundred or more riders present.

more than 500 cyclists massed on friday evening in good weather. the ride visited several key locations including commemorations of two lives recently lost.

for the second month running, the critical mass appeared to be without police presence. one cycling paramedic accompanied the ride. the mass was generally peaceful, well self-organised, and very pleasurable. one of the longer rides too!
